Speaking of Burda’s desire to diversify - FAZ.NET reported yesterday that Burda also has invested in Seed Media Group’s ScienceBlogs. The minority investment is in the millions, no details have been disclosed.
ScienceBlogs is a network of currently 65 bloggers on a wide range of topics like climate change, intelligent design, stem cells, etc. They also reflect upon the implications of science on politics, religion, philosophy, business and the arts. The network was founded in January 2006 and has become - in their own words - “the largest online community dedicated to science” attracting 1.7 million visitors each month.
Burda will establish a German version of ScienceBlogs as soon as possible, probably early next year. Burda’s CEO of R&D Marcel Reichart believes:
Scientific fields like medicine are increasingly becoming important in our everyday lives, but it is difficult to communicate the results of scientific research. Scienceblogs is a media brand of the future and might close the gap between science and the general public.
Thumbs up to Burda, we are down with that.
