Jimdo recently launched a Chinese version (our coverage here) and is also available in English, German and French. Users can not only use text but embed images and videos as well as use a premade design and their own.

Jimdo ist interesting for us because the guys developed an innovative and convincing product. There is no easier and better way to build you own website at the moment.

says Oliver Samwer and Jimdo co-founder Fridtjof Detzner adds that it is not just about the money:

The Samwer brother’s bring a lot of experience and knowledge to the table. Both will help to increase our technological advance as well as foster international and national growth.

While Jimdo seems to be doing pretty well, it leaves the question if the market for web page creation tools really is that big or if there is something else behind it. Though catering towards the end user and SMB, I see no reason why Jimdo should not be able to develop a more white label approach with their technology. Web page creator with Ajax interface can be used not only for making web pages but could prove useful for other ventures as well.

If the technology is easy to use and distribute, why not spin of new ideas out of this? Or develop the software even further and integrate it into other ventures if they are up for it instead of inventing this on their own?

When talking to co-founder Matthias Henze he admits that the demand for a white label solution is given, but according to him the main goal of Jimdo stays to become a well recognized brand for easy content creation as well as aggregation on the web. Upcoming features will go beyond the pure static web pages and engage Jimdo users with more community like functionality.
